2009 Slingshot Directional Board Models

Information is beginning to be released on the new 2009 range of Slingshot directional boards.  In 2007 there was only the SRT, 2008 saw the introduction of the SST.  For 2009 they added two new boards; Celeritas and the Ben Wilson Pro.

All boards are now made using WVS (Wood Veneer Sandwich);

New for 2009, is a complete revamp of Slingshot’s approach to surfboard construction, developed exclusively for demanding kiteboarding conditions.?  Slingshot are incorporating the magic effect of wood found in their twin tip boards to their surfboards.   The Wood Veneer Sandwich? (WVS) brings a new standard of quality to surfboards designed for kiteboarding.?  The use of wood instead of foam in the sandwich part of the construction dampens the board for better feel, increases durability, and allows us control flex which provides a more intuitive ride.  It also allows Slingshot to build a much more eco friendly surfboard.

Ben Wilson Pro (RRP ~£449)

A high performance short board designed to compliment Ben’s aggressive aerial style.  The BW Pro model has a slightly dome deck with a single concave bottom that zero’s out at the tail.  This allows riders to control their speed strapped or strapless.  The BW Pro board is set up specifically with a classic tri fin configuration which allows for precision turns in the pocket.

Celeritas (RRP ~£399)

Looking for some speed in your surf riding???  Look no further than Slingshot’s most fun addition to the Crossover Collection, the Slingshot Celeritas.  This board is faster than fast!!

The Celeritas is a short ‘trunk’ style board with exaggerated concave and curvey tail lines.  It also features a fast centre rocker that blends from the centre to the tail giving this board off the charts speed while maintaining perfect control.  The Celeritas is so versatile it is a blast to ride in small mushy surf but also holds its own in good medium surf.  The Celaritas was born out of a fun tri fin board shaped for Ben.  It has such innovative qualities, adds to his riding and best of all……he even paddles this board too!!!

SST (RRP ~£425)

The SST from Slingshot’s Crossover Collection is designed to be the most versatile surfboard that they make.  The SST is great for lighter winds or bigger riders that want better upwind ability.  The SST Quad has a dome deck and deep single concave running the full length of the board.  Its boxy rails in the tail and low round soft forward rail allow the SST Quad to be driven extremely hard in the turns.  The SST Quad shape also has a wider nose with a wider tail that provides a large surface area to drive the quad fins.

SRT (RRP ~£425)

Proven worldwide, the SRT 5′11″ excels in small waves and river swell alike.  New for 2009, as part of the Crossover Collection, the SRT has a round tail and quad fins.  The bottom of the SRT has a flat entry rocker, increased tail kick and a slight single concave in the front.  The outline is a “no nose” which means that the wide point of the board is pulled back, matched with low round rails and a tail that is then pulled into a tight round thumb.

The SRT Quad is for lighter smaller riders or aggressive riders who want a fast forgiving board that makes tight turns in the pocket and the feeling of a quick speed burst. Kiteboarders coming off twin tips will find the learning curve adjusting to quad style surfboards easy.
